Since lithium batteries have high storage energy, usually several times that of lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries of the same volume and weight are more durable than lead-acid batteries, with a longer range and longer service life, usually reaching about 80% of the actual capacity after 1000 cycles.

However, lithium batteries also have their own shortcomings, that is, the safety is not lead-acid battery stability, so the market derived from the lithium battery BMS (Battery Management System) lithium batteries as long as the increase of BMS, safety and stability will be guaranteed. When the battery encounters problems will damage the BMS and will not cause damage to the battery cell resulting in lithium battery instability. Price is the same volume and weight of lithium batteries are several times the price of lead-acid batteries.

3. Colloidal battery has high capacity, stable performance and long service life, but high price.

Colloidal lead-acid battery is a kind of battery improved on the basis of lead-acid battery, it adopts gel electrolyte, there is no free liquid inside, so it is more efficient to use. Generally, under the same volume, the capacity of colloidal lead-acid battery is bigger, so the thermal capacity is also bigger, and the thermal dissipation ability of this kind of battery is strong.

Also, the stability of the colloidal battery is very good, able to withstand a long time of discharge or deep discharge, and there are special features of overcharge and overdischarge. If we talk about the disadvantages, the price is a bit higher, the cost performance is very poor, and then is not suitable for the size of light electric bike. Colloidal lead-acid batteries have a large capacity but also have a very large volume and weight.

4. The hottest ultra-long life LiFePO4 battery in recent years

LiFePO4 is the hottest selling energy storage battery in recent years. Lithium iron batteries have a super long life of 5000 cycles and can work on electric bikes for ten years! LiFePO4 battery is as stable as lead-acid battery because the discharge multiplier is very small. The volume of LiFePO4 battery is the same as that of LiPo battery, which is also suitable for application in light electric bike.

The disadvantage is that the discharge rate is too small. The discharge rate of lithium battery is three times or more than lithium iron battery. The price is not cheap, and the price of Li-ion battery is almost the same. At the same volume, LiFePO4 has about 45% less capacity than LiPo. Due to the limitation of the discharge rate of LiFePO4, it cannot be used in high power electric bike.

5. NiMH battery power is safe and reliable but small capacity and high price.

Nickel-metal hydride battery is a kind of alkaline battery, the power of this battery, and the work of the current can be smoothly discharged, good safety performance, long cycle life, their own weight is relatively light.

But the disadvantages of this battery is also very obvious, that is, the battery capacity is relatively small, weakness is relatively short range, and the price is also relatively high, there is another point, this battery has memory characteristics, you must use up the battery’s electricity to recharge, so the use in the electric bike is almost no.
